Okay, so I'm fudging a little....but in about 2 1/2 weeks, we'll be up in the air (literally) on our way to Budapest. We've started to lay out the right clothes and keeping an eye on the weather (as in temperatures) in Central Europe. We will definitely pack our rain jackets and Dollar store umbrellas; plans are to layer clothes for multiple temperature changes and mix and match to keep our packing light. Although we say this on all of our trips, this time it's REAL...we are limited to one suitcase each and a small carry-on. Another trick that we learned is to pack 1/2 of our clothes in each suitcase so that if one is lost, we'll both have things to wear. Just heard that Delta is implementing a luggage tracking system for fliers....but...we're flying USAirways and its partner Lufthansa :( Maybe next trip - it sure would be nice to see where our luggage travels if it doesn't want to go where we go :) .
The real fun around our house is to hear us practicing a few words in Hungarian. Now I know why I never understood my father and my uncles when they spoke their native language. Not only is it difficult to speak, but the letters in each word do not sound the way they are spelled (guess they would say the same about learning to translate from Hungarian to English).
Example - Good morning! translation Jó reggelt pronounced something like Yur reget.
All of the trip materials are organized, seat selections are made for the transatlantic legs but we can't select seats on Lufthansa until we get to the airport - what's up with that?? Ordered and received a new charger and battery for my camera (left the original one in the mountain house where we celebrated our anniversary with our wonderful family and was unable to retrieve it), have extra media cards for the camera and love knowing that I can take as many pictures as I wish and choose the best later. I'm a bit unsure of how likely I am to be able to upload pictures are we go since the River Boat has one computer for 118 people and the materials don't indicate a WiFi connection. I doubt that I'll want to spend any of our precious time looking for an Internet Cafe but I'm happy that we'll have WiFi in the hotels in Budapest and Prague where we'll spend more time than other towns that we'll visit.
Truthfully, it's almost as much fun to do the planning as it is to do the trip - note that I said ALMOST!!
Off to learn a few more words in Hungarian and then on to learning the same words in Czech!!
